What to expect

If you’ve not worked with an editor or proofreader before, you might be wondering what to expect.

I appreciate that handing over your writing to someone else can be daunting (or even terrifying), so I aim to be as open and honest as possible about the editing and proofreading process.

First steps

The first step is to let me know the basics, such as
  • the type of writing you’d like me to work on
  • total wordcount (including any appendices, references, bibliography, etc)
  • a sample of the text (ideally 1,000 words or so)
  • the level of work needed (I will confirm this, based on the sample)
  • your target audience
  • your deadline
  • your budget

In return, I’ll confirm in writing what I can do and by when, along with a quote for the project.

You're in control

For all projects, I use Track Changes (or similar) so that you can see the changes I’ve suggested in detail then accept (or reject) each one, meaning you always stay in control of your work. If you’d prefer to work another way, that’s absolutely fine, too.

We can also agree how often you’d like to be updated on progress and discuss anything else you think is relevant to the project, plus any questions you may have about the process.
